The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia (DAFWA) has diagnosed the first WA case of PPMV1 in pigeons. The owner has lost 30 out of 130 pigeons and DAFWA has put a direction notice on the property to manage the spread from the property. The affected pigeons have significant neurological clinical signs. DAFWA has alerted racing pigeon federation and fancy pigeon associations in WA to encourage owners to vaccinate their pigeons. Australian Animal Health Laboratory has confirmed the strain as being identical to that previously isolated from Victoria.
