Found a Pigeon?

Found a lost pigeon?

First ensure the bird has some water available, and give it some seed in case it’s hungry (parrot seed is fine, or even some rice, if nothing else is available try bread, pigeons do not eat meat.)

Check the bird’s legs for a registration ring (lifetime band made of anodized aluminium or plastic). Some breeds have long foot feathering ,so you may have to hunt through this to find it, often in these breeds the ring may be up high on the thigh. Once found write down all the numbers and letters on the ring.

If the letters “NPA” or “ANPA” appear, you are in luck, as the ring was issued by the Australian National Pigeon Association (ANPA) and can be traced to the the club and individual who bought the batch the ring number was in, and thus bred the pigeon.

To search out the owner of an NPA or ANPA rung bird yourself, check out the Ring Registry.

Important Note: If the ring does not have the letters NPA or ANPA, you will need to check other sources. if the ring has a clear plastic protective coating, it probably is a racing pigeon. So you will need to check for Racing Pigeon clubs on the web, or in the telephone book under clubs and societies.

Found a sick bird in Darwin, Northern Territory. Had to be put to sleep for humane reasons. Red metal tag on leg reads: MOH PH 93870344 50
The MOH is tiny at the top, the 50 is larger than the rest. If anybody can help me to contact the owner of this bird it would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

We’re a vet clinic in Lane Cove, Sydney, NSW.
A member of the public dropped off an all white pigeon last week that was unable to fly. Band no is 09 ANPA 3072.
I suspect it has some soft tissue injuries and thus is not yet able to fly. I can’t feel any fractures anywhere. It is very bright and eating and drinking well.
It is not a racing pigeon, we suspect it’s a show pigeon.
If anyone knows the owner of this pigeon or is interested in taking this pigeon, please call our clinic on 02 9428 3375.
    Cheers

If you check the ring again it will also have an alphabetic letter
which will help to find the breeder .

Hi, we found a pigeon on our back deck on the 5th Sept. It has the following band details: ANPA 09 B7729. It is a beautiful white and speckled bird. We have given it free run of our covered back deck during the day and it hasn’t taken off to fly home (we bring it inside at night given the cold Canberra nights at the moment). Is anyone missing this beautiful bird? We are in Gungahlin, ACT.
    Cheers,
    Marcus

I don’t have this pigeon but I came across it sitting in a dead tree on 28/8 while I was birdwatching in western NSW. It looked like a disoriented racing pigeon – what we used to call a ‘blue bar’. Orange plastic bands both legs, thin blue band below on R leg. Digits just before the words on R leg were “2 (probably) 54″.

    HI

We have a flock pigeons which have taken up residence at our house. We live in Yeppoon, Queensland. The rings on their legs just say Loft Rings 2009 1343. Can you please help locate the owners as there has already been two that we have found dead in our yard and they are also making a terrible mess of our house.

    Thanks

Well done! It’s unusual to get service as good as this these days. I also rather like the idea of being given 5 minutes in which to edit messages before they get posted. I’m sure we’ve all hit the “send” button prematurely in the past.

Brad, would it be possible to reverse the order of these messages (and also those on the general page) so that the most recent message is on top? It would save having to scroll down and would be in keeping with normal convention for these types of listings.

Thank you Bob, I have already contacted Tony. I now have an address to check for the owners no phone number though. However, it will be very hard as our family have grown quite attached to the little bird and I am sure it to us as it follows us around outside and it has made no attempt to leave. It has been here for over 2 weeks!
