From acting ANPA Secretary Dave Willans: As you may be aware, the 2017 National Show to be hosted by Adelaide has been cancelled. This was the result of the ongoing spread of a new and deadly Rota virus in pigeons in Australia which as yet has no proven control. This very serious situation is regretful but necessary. There is no record of this virus elsewhere in the world.
From ANPA Secretary Dave Willans: The ANPA Committee has considered the latest professional information on the current Rota virus and has cancelled the 2017 National Show. It requests all affiliated clubs to cancel their shows/gatherings.
Dr Colin Walker of Melbourne Bird Vets has reported today that the sequencing of the virus responsible for the current disease outbreak has been completed, and that it is a member of the Reo family of viruses called a Rota virus. The Australian National Pigeon Association (ANPA) advises members to adhere to strict biosecurity protocols during the current Reo virus outbreak in Victoria. This includes no inter loft movement of pigeons or fanciers.
