Queensland has joined other states in banning imports of Victorian pigeons, pigeon eggs, and fittings such as cages and egg boxes used with pigeons, to prevent the introduction of a virus.

Pigeon Paramyxovirus Type 1 (PMV1) has been confirmed in two dead feral pigeons (Columbia livia) at a factory in close proximity to a number of known affected properties; it is considered most likely that the source of infection is from infection in hobby pigeons.
Ban of all pigeon gatherings in Victoria. The Minister for Agriculture and Food Security will issue an Order prohibiting the holding of shows, exhibitions, markets, sales, auctions, tossing and racing pigeons anywhere in the State of Victoria.
